but have been practicing actively for 37 years. I was born and
raised in this religion but was also taught of the Catholic
religion and received my First Holy Communion where I experienced
possession for the first time.

While to the
outside world the folk religion of Haiti -- Vodun or Voodoo as
it's popularly known, is shrouded in mystery and dark myths, to Vodunists, their religion is a consoling and sustaining dialogue

What
is unique in the Vodoun ritual is that immortal spirits move
among us during votive ceremonies. The Lwas come, they exchange
words with those present, they help those that honor them and
then they leave. |

Voodoo - Vodou - Vodun
Since Vodoun in its different forms seems to be turning into
a favorite Web subject, I think I'll share a few of my
personal experiences as a Vodoun initiate within this culture
too. No doubt, some might be startled, shocked, or otherwise
disturbed, and some may disagree... but that's fine too because
all of that's part of the Vodoun experience in and of itself. |
